Rock Blast 2006 [Cancelled]
November 13, 2006I just received a sms from one of the organizer of Rock Blast 2006 & they are extremely sorry to announce that the concert has been cancelled.
I’m trying to get the whole story behind the cancellation & I will update shortly.

The reason behind cancelling the show sounds quiet absurd to me. Anyhow, this is what the show organizers wrote to me.
“At first the Green Island Management was interested and was willing to help with the concert, but after a while they seemed hesitant and did not tell us what was bothering them. Later they told us to go ahead with all the arrangement and design the poster, advertise etc. So we did as we were told and advertised the concert still awaiting the final confirmation.
After a few days of much advertising they cancelled the concert because of a past issue concerning ‘Rock Rage’ which was also held at Green Island, saying that it was an act of Satanism and so on.
After that we tried our luck with Mesilla Beach and the same thing happened there too… first they approved the concert and then within a few days changed their mind and cancelled it. They said it was because the press got involved and that the Green Island Management was supporting their cause to stop the concert from taking place, calling it a satanic ritual.”

glad i found your blog, i’ve been looking for musicians to work with here in kuwait. i’m sure you know how hard that can be.
i’m primarily a samplist, but i sample instruments and musicians jamming as opposed to entire songs. i’ve also only just started thinking of my mpc as an instrument for jamming/live performances.

hey skunk, yeah it is pretty messed up here in Kuwait. I just checked out your Akai mpc, it is quiet a tight gear to do a live set with. Anyhow, what’s your style of music? I’m going to mail you my MSN id.
This is so stupid, another show got canceled, just because of a stupid PRESS that says this is a Satanic show and they dont understand anything about music or rock, but you know someting the people should talk about these press to tell them to FUCK OFF cause seriously no one in kuwait is talking about them nor shutting them up, you guys have to go up all in groups line in 50 or more to make your SPEECH OR vote the same thing which happened with the womens right. You guys should be in groups, but no one cares, everyone gives up, and if you guys dont do something about this quick then there will be no more ROCK SHOWS, and this country will be much boring as before.

i got an idea about your rockfest thing but i gotta run it by a friend of mine, he might have the same problems tho, especially since his developments are ‘family’ orientated.
but anyway, i’m mostly into underground hiphop, you know not radio crap, but as a producer i tend to listen to everything and incorporate bits and pieces here and there. i quite like the idea of mixing it up so anything goes,…. the broader the experience the more eclectic the music.
i’ve used ableton since 4.5, brilliant piece of software, especially when integrated with the mpc.
check out youtube when you have time and google mpc live, theres a bunch of live set videos on there. mostly hiphop and breakbeat but you’ll get the idea of what it does.

hey skunk, yeah i’m more of a hardware musician & i’ve had my hands on the mpc 60 & mpc 2000 back in the turntable days. haven’t had the chance to explore their new products & I’ve tried the Roland MV-8000 too.
as for the shows are concern, lets stay out of it. i left the bands almost a year ago to stay out of trouble, it is poinless to perform when the audience are not cooperative at all.

i got my hands on the mpc1000 just to see if i’ll like it, and i’m loving it. i’d love to get my hands on the mpc60 just for its sound. i dont suppose you know of any gathering dust here in kuwait?
